The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) is a private, non-profit, voluntary organization founded in 1895 in Atlanta, Georgia. The mission of SACS is the improvement of Education in the South through accreditation. There are five other private regional accrediting associations that provide similar services to the other regions of the United States. The SACS Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees.

All degree programs within MSE are accredited
through the University of Florida’s accreditation by SACSCOC.  Detailed

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is an independent organization that ensures the quality of engineering and technology education programs through its accreditation activities. It provides guidance on best practices in engineering and technology education, and assesses the effectiveness of educational programs at meeting the needs of students and their future employers.

Accreditation is conducted by representatives of the member professional societies that make up ABET. The responsible society for the Materials Science and Engineering program is TMS

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science program in Materials Science and Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. ABET is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology and is among the most respected accreditation organizations in the United States.
