Welcome to the Biomaterials Center in the College of Engineering under the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. The Center is devoted to the enhancement of graduate education in the field of biomaterials. Research programs are strongly focused on such projects as the synthesis and properties of hydrophilic polymers, tissue-protective polymer coatings and solutions, chemically modified biosurfaces, biodegradable scaffolds for tissue regeneration and macromolecular carriers for localized drug delivery.

A basic project strategy for the Center's biomedical polymer studies has been to address fundamental scientific problems which have the potential for achieving clinically significant advances for improved and more cost-efficient health care. To this end, extensive interactions and joint projects with academic clinical investigators and with scientists in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries have been essential.
